This Shakori was extra special for us, we got to introduce some one to their very first music festival. We have an exchange student staying with us for 10 months. She is from Brazil and got here in August, it has been a difficult transition for her. We made her come to Shakori for Saturday and Sunday because we felt like it would be a good experience for her and we wanted her to get out of the house for a little while.
She arrived in the afternoon, after taking her SAT and signed up to volunteer. Then we took her to Meadow stage for her first music festival music experience. It was Caique Vidal, playing Brazilian music!!! She loved it and we all danced hard for that set. That night I took her to Donna the Buffalo and Preston Frank. A new style of music she had never heard. During that set some kids her age danced her right in to their friend group and she stayed out dancing with them till the wee hours of the morning.
That is the magic of festivals and the special magic of Shakori Hills and why I love to introduce people to festivals.
Thanks to David Dean, Selena Hodom, Grant Golden and all the staff and volunteers who make this happen! ... See MoreSee Less
