Austin City Limits is what all major festivals need to be like. The combination of music, people, food, beer and the city of Austin make for one (or two) spectacular weekends.

The festival takes place in Zilker Park, about a mile from downtown. While this park is known for ACL, it is also home of Barton Springs where there many people kayaking as well. The park is well maintained and there are many hydration stations for people as the festival despite taking place in October can get into the 90s. In addition to the water, there is also tons and tons of local Austin food vendors. I recommend the Mighty Cone which is very popular as well as the Kimchi nachos from Chi’lantro, which was featured on Shark Tank.

The craft beer tent has big screens if you want to chill between sets and a great selection of local and well known beers on draft.

Getting to the most important part, the music, ACL consistently books top artists from the present and great legacy acts and competes with the Lolla’s and Coachella’s every year for best lineup.

In 2017, the top 3 headliners of Jay-Z, RHCP, and The Killers were incredible and you could argue that Paul McCartney, Metallica, and Childish Gambino this year are even better. They do a great job of filling the under card as well and I came out very impressed with bands I wasn’t too familiar with.

One thing I will say is that it is a wide open park and the grass starts wearing out and it can be kind of dusty. This didn’t bother most people, but I forgot my inhaler (whoops) and it was slightly difficult to breath. I didn’t let it stop me from having an incredible weekend and I hope to get back there soon!

ACL is one of the best fests I’ve been to. Even though it can be brutally hot, the music / vibes / people are worth it.
